The Digital Initiatives Group (DIGI) brings together a seasoned, multi-disciplinary team with deep experience in strengthening national-scale health information systems and implementing digital health interventions around the world.

The UW’s Department of Global Health (DGH), a joint initiative of the Schools of Medicine and Public Health, drives impactful multidisciplinary research, service, and education with a network of over 200 faculty members spanning 50 countries.

DIGI brings together this institutional expertise with a focus on health informatics, championing the implementation of open-source, standards-based data systems that serve millions of patients across more than 26 countries.

Global Digital Health Leadership

DIGI is a recognized leader in digital health global goods communities and international standards development.

OpenMRS Leadership

Our team includes the OpenMRS Community Engineering Lead and the Chair of the Board of Directors.

OpenHIE Community

We lead health information exchange platform development using OpenHIE architecture and FHIR standards.

Open LIS Community of Practice

Founded by DIGI to advance open source laboratory information systems globally.

WHO SMART Guidelines

Collaborating with WHO’s Digital Health and Interoperability working group on computable guidelines.

Working With DIGI

DIGI’s team includes digital health specialists, health workforce specialists, data analysts, software engineers, and research and evaluation specialists who are assigned to projects that align with their expertise. We also have access to a global network of staff, consultants, and vendors.

Roles for project staff and any necessary vendors or consultants are established within a Project Agreement or formal contract. A DIGI Project Lead serves as the primary point of contact with the client and coordinates team members toward harmonized contributions to project objectives.

DIGI is a non-profit service center within the University of Washington that operates under billing rates approved annually by the UW’s Management Accounting and Analysis Unit. Our position within the UW Department of Global Health helps us leverage diverse resources and staff from across the University and our network of country offices and partners.
